Swapping to a Travel Voucher through our old 3rd-party provider

We're deeply committed to providing the very best experience possible to our customers. Although we typically no longer recommend our old partner, Redeem Vacations, they did recently bring on a phenomenal resort in Cancún, and we don't yet have a really great option in Cancún. So until we're able to offer something comparable, we're giving you the option of swapping out for a Redeem Vacations Cancún voucher. That said, there are a few things you need to know before making the choice to swap out. Read on for details.

What Do I Need to Know Before Swapping Out?

PLEASE NOTE: REDEEM VACATIONS WILL ONLY OFFER THEIR REALLY NICE RESORT IF YOU'RE AGE 25+ AND MARRIED OR COHABITATING. IF YOU DON'T MEET THAT CRITERIA, THEY'LL SUBSTITUTE WITH SOME PRETTY LACKLUSTER OPTIONS INSTEAD. AS SUCH, WE ONLY ENCOURAGE USING THIS OPTION IF YOU MEET THIS CRITERIA.

There are both some very nice pros and some very real cons to using our old voucher provider. We want to be very upfront about them so you can decide if this is a good option for you:

Pros:

  • Just like our program, their Cancun Vouchers are now for 7 nights.
  • Redeem Vacations is currently using the Mayan Palace, which is a really fantastic 5-star, beachfront resort. We've had a LOT of customers stay at this resort, and they've absolutely loved it.
  • Unlike our program where the resorts give us very specific date blocks, they're able to book pretty much any dates you'd like. For example, if you need a Wednesday to Wednesday vacation, they can do that! And while we can't guarantee they'll never have any dates blocked out, it seems to be pretty rare. If you need very specific travel dates, this may be a good option for you.
  • They charge taxes & fees of about $28/night, plus a resort fee of about $30/night, for a total of $58/night for a resort that would normally cost around $200/night.

Cons (while most of these are not a big deal, some could be depending on your unique circumstances. Please read through these carefully):

  • They will make you pay the non-refundable taxes & fees upfront in order to "activate" your voucher. They require you to do that within 7 days of receiving the voucher. Then the resort fee will be charged when you book your stay instead of when you arrive at the resort.
  • Once you activate the voucher, they only give you 18 months to travel. And if you don't use it within that timeframe, you lose the voucher and the taxes & fees. If that were to happen, we'll gladly repace the voucher with one of our non-expiring vouchers, but we can't do anything about the taxes & fees. As such, please swap out your voucher only if you're ready to book right away.
  • They require that you book at least 14 days in advance.
  • They only allow you to bring up to two adults and two children age 12 and under. They may at times offer an upgrade to bring extra children, but they won't tell you if that's available until after you've activated the voucher.
  • They don't allow group travel. Only one travel voucher may be used per travel group.
  • They only allow you to activate one voucher every 12 months per household, and you can't visit the same destination twice.
  • They do have a tendency to change things without letting us know. We do our best to keep this page up-to-date wtih the latest information, but if you find that anything doesn't match the information we have here, please let us know!
  • While most bookings with them go smoothly, please note that if you have an issue, their customer service is notoriously horrendous. They have a way of being unhelpful, sometimes completely failing to answer the question you're asking, and at times they can even be downright rude. If you were to run into an issue with them, please let us know and we'll do our best to assist you.
  • Note also that they no longer have an option for an all-inclusive upgrade. (But they do have a bunch of really great onsite restaurants. Even if you were to eat 3 meals a day in the restaurants, it usually comes out cheaper than paying for an all-inclusive upgrade.)
