It was 2001, and my uncle had invited me to join him on a backcountry backpacking trip in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho. At the wise old age of 21, I’d been on plenty of campouts, but I’d never done anything like this. Four days and three nights completely off the trail and off the grid, navigating our way with nothing but a GPS (which at one point nearly tumbled off a 500-foot cliff). It was an offer I couldn’t refuse. I packed up my 1984 Subaru DL and took off for Idaho.
I had just bought my first ever digital camera. It had a whopping 2.1 Megapixels. Even though it was heavy and bulky, I couldn’t resist the temptation to take it with me into the great outdoors. I’m no professional photographer, but there was something about that trip—the absolute stunning beauty all around me and the camera by my side—that made me fall in love with stunning photography of our stunning planet.
We created Orb.co to celebrate the beauty of Planet Earth by printing the most amazing shots from nature on premium canvases. Maybe we’re biased, but we believe that when you bring nature’s beauty inside your home, you don’t just transform your space, but you transform a bit of yourself in the process.
